1247 Fusobacterium Necrophorum - A Rare Thyroglossal Cyst Habitat That Can Be Lethal

Abstract Thyroglossal cyst is the most frequent developmental cervical anomaly with a prevalence of 7% in population. Infection and abscess formation are common complications. Isolation Fusobacterium Necrophorum (F. Necrophorum) made management this case challenging. An 18-year-old male presented to emergency department 3-day history neck mass, sore throat, cachexia, dysphagia fever. Clinical examination revealed an erythematous 4 x 5 fluctuant swelling midline evident lymphadenopathy on level II left-hand side. A CT that was undertaken nine months ago suggestive thyroglossal patient placed waiting list for surgical excision under general anaesthesia. He reported three episodes since then. Upon admission, ultrasound guided drainage arranged, pus sample obtained. The presence F. by microbiology instructions urgent admission strict antibiotic regime. Excision scheduled after completion course. rare microorganism increased virulence significant mortality rate. It has been involved oropharyngeal infections complicated Lemierre’s syndrome, necrobacillosis, post anginal sepsis septic jugular thrombophlebitis making particular interest.
